Harvard CEEL - IC

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Format and Sequencing

What is the format, and what work is involved in this certificate program?
CEEL takes place exclusively online and offers participants a flexible and job-embedded learning experience. The CEEL Portfolio is comprised of the following three series:

Each of the three series includes four instructional Learn modules that build participants’ core knowledge in key areas, including early learning and development, adult learning, and leadership and management. The fifth module is a Plan and Apply module designed to support participants as they map key learnings and create and implement a plan tailored to their site and work.

Registration is available on IC’s Professional Development Site; those who complete all modules across the three series will earn the Certificate in Early Education Leadership.

Each Learn module is three weeks and will require approximately 10 hours of work. The Plan and Apply module runs for four weeks and requires approximately 15 hours of work.

Do I need to take the three series in a specific order?
You can begin with any series and complete them in any order. Participants pursuing the full certificate must complete all three series in their entirety.

Do I need to take modules within a series in a specific order?
Participants can begin with any Learn module and complete them in any order. We strongly recommend that participants complete all four of the Learn modules in a Series (A through D) before they take the Plan and Apply module within that series. At the very least, participants should have taken two of the A through D modules in a Series before taking the Plan and Apply module for that Series.

How long does it take to complete the Certificate in Early Education Leadership?
Depending on when you begin your participation and how many modules you take at the same time, it can take between 5 and 18 months for participants to earn the full certificate. Our recommendation is that participants take one module at a time. If you do this, it will take you approximately 18 months to earn your certificate.

When can I start?
The IC cohort is scheduled to start March, 2024
. Dates depend on enrollments and will be confirmed as soon as a cohort reaches full capacity. It is highly recommended that you apply beforehand to save your place in the cohort.

Is it done entirely online?

Yes. CEEL is an online and asynchronous program. This flexibility gives you more freedom to organize your time. An optional synchronous gathering may be scheduled at times for everyone in your cohort.

What is the cost of the program?
The full certificate costs $2,940. Installment plans are available. Additional benefits are available for participants who register for the full certificate.

What are the benefits of joining the program?

Registration for the full certificate:

  • Complete all three series to receive your Certificate in Early Education Leadership

  • Personalized kick-off meeting

  • The CEEL completion entitles you to receive the IC Educator Level 1 certificate

Will the Certificate be issued by Harvard?

Yes. The CEEL is an official Harvard certificate issued by Harvard Graduate School of Education. International Comprehensive and Nouvelle School collaborate with Harvard to promote the CEEL, but they do not issue the certificate.

Changing Your Program Status

Deferring Your Enrollment:

If a participant needs to defer their enrollment for a Series, they must inform the IC team at least two weeks before the start of the Series. Deferral requests should be sent via email to contact@icomprehensive.com

If a participant requests a deferral and informs the IC team at least two weeks before the start of the course, they will be authorized to join another cohort if applicable.

If a participant does not inform the IC team at least two weeks before the start of the course, or if they fail to attend the course they have enrolled in, they will not be authorized to defer their enrollment.

Please note that if a participant has received access to the course materials or started the course, they are no longer eligible to defer their enrollment.

If a participant wishes to defer their enrollment for a second time, they must contact the IC team to request approval. Approval for a second deferral will be granted at the discretion of the IC team and will be based on the reason for the request.

Withdrawals and Refunds

Withdrawal Policy

Participants are allowed to withdraw from a Series up until two weeks before the first module starts. If a participant wishes to withdraw from the series or the full certificate, they must inform us via email.

Refund Policy

If a participant withdraws from the series or full certificate up until two weeks before the start date, they are eligible for a full refund, less an administrative fee of $150 for the full CEEL and $50 per Series. The administrative fee covers the cost of processing the withdrawal and refund. If a refund is authorized, the participant will receive a prorated refund based on the number of weeks they attended the course. The administrative fee of $150 will still be deducted from the refund amount.

Refund Process

All refund requests must be submitted in writing via email to the IC Team. Refunds will be processed within 10 business days from the date the request is received. If a participant paid for the course via credit card, the refund will be issued back to the credit card used to make the payment. If a participant paid for the course via another method, such as PayPal or bank transfer, the refund will be issued via the same method. Please note that if a participant has received a certificate of completion for the module or series, they are no longer eligible for a refund.

Policy Exceptions

We understand that unexpected life events happen. IC may make exceptions to our deadline, deferral, and withdrawal policies on a case-by-case basis.

Extreme life circumstances include, but are not limited to:

  • Unexpected medical situation for you or a dependent

  • Death of a family member

  • Natural disaster or other large-scale event

Early and active communication is essential to help us support you during your life event. We expect you to make every reasonable effort to reach out to us within 2 weeks of your life event. Regardless of circumstances, no requests submitted more than 60 days from the final deadline of your course will be considered. To the extent you can do so, we encourage you to continue your coursework while any exception request is under review.

Participants who do not agree with a decision made on an exception, accommodation, or any decision rendered by the IC team can submit a formal appeal. The appeals process will allow you to submit more information or documentation to provide additional context as to why you believe your exception decision should be changed. This appeal will be reviewed by an appeals committee at the IC team. Appeals decisions are considered final and we will only accept one appeal per exception or accommodation decision.

Credential Questions

What will I receive upon completion of each module?
Upon successful completion of an individual Learn module, participants will receive documentation of participation as well as a letter confirming the clock hours awarded (10 hours).

Upon successful completion of the Plan and Apply module, participants will receive documentation of participation as well as a letter confirming the clock hours awarded (15 hours).

Here is the breakdown of clock hours and continuing education units (CEUs) provided for each module type:

• CEEL Learn modules (Learn A, B, C, D) are eligible for 1 CEU and 10 clock hours each.
• CEEL Plan and Apply modules are eligible for 1.5 CEU and 15 clock hours each.

So, the full certificate would be worth 16.5 CEUs/165 clock hours.

What is the certificate that I will receive upon completion of all three series?
Participants who successfully complete all modules within the three CEEL series — Leading for Early Learning and Development, Rethinking Leadership in Early Education, and Supporting Optimal Teaching and Learning Environments — will receive the Certificate in Early Education Leadership.
